Teaching Statement
I believe dancers grow through challenge, awareness, and choice. I create structured
environments where physical strength and mental decision-making develop together, using
guided improvisation, scored tasks, and phrase work to give dancers clear frameworks while
leaving room for interpretation. These exercises help dancers notice how their choices shape
movement, navigate risk, and build confidence performing independently.
I value interpretation as much as execution and observe how dancers respond when given space
to question, adapt, and take risks. By emphasizing presence and physical honesty, I create
rehearsal environments where embodied knowledge informs the work. I aim to build
performance spaces where care, recognition, and permission are felt rather than explained.
Dance offers a way to process experiences that are often internalized or difficult to articulate.
Beyond the studio, audiences connect through shared bodily sensation, recognizing familiar
patterns of holding, bracing, or release.
